St Emilion wine tasting experience
The highlight of the cruise will be the day at St Emilion. Your adventure will start around 8.00am with a scenic drive to St Emilion. After a coffee break a local Tourism Guide will escort you through the famous underground church of St Emilion, the famous UNESCO world heritage site.
Afterwards you will spend the rest of the day with Patrick Marchal, your guide and wine expert at one of the most respected and influential distributors in St Emilion. He will give you a short briefing on Bordeaux wines in their “petit salon” where you will then go on to learn about terroir and how it affects wine, the classification of Bordeaux wines and the technique of tasting wine. This will be accompanied by a tasting of younger “Boutique wines”.
You will then lunch at the Michelin Star restaurant Hostellerie de Plaisance or the hotly tipped Logis de La Cadene or Chateau Troplong Mondot (both tipped for their first Michelin star). During lunch you will have the opportunity to experience and understand the secrets of fine food and wine pairing.
With a jam-packed afternoon still ahead of you, next you will have a private visit to the Chateau Beau-Séjour Duffaut Lagarosse, one of only 18 Chateaux that is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé. This private Chateau is closed to the general public so we are offering you a unique experience. You will learn about the winemaking process and see how “terroir” influences wine production. You will be taken to their underground cellars, which date back to the 13th century, to see the vintages currently laid down there, some of which are over 50 years old.
This will be followed by a driving tour of the vineyards of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol to discover famous names such as Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Angelus.
Returning to the distributors, a special tasting of vintages from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s from famous properties of Bordeaux awaits. You will learn more about vintages and the ageing process, something which has made the Grands Vins de Bordeaux famous worldwide.
Afterwards you will be met by one of the crew from the St Louis and there will be time to explore the town of St Emilion further, do some shopping and sightseeing and still return to the barge in plenty of time for dinner on board.
This is a visit for those who are keen to develop their knowledge and understanding of fine wine and vinification. For pricing and further details please send us a message or call Peter on +33 87 656 301
